The Wii U uses six-channel linear PCM audio output. With a recent system update, support for Dolby Pro Logic II was added.
Use of this format is only available in Wii Mode. Connect the Wii U console to an AV Amplifier using a high-speed HDMI cable.
Set the Wii U TV Audio Settings to "Surround. If your AV Amplifier does not support the use of six-channel linear PCM audio output, then you will not be able to utilize full surround sound.
