Here at Boyds, we could tell you how great our stocks are all day long. However, it usually means more when you hear it from a customer. Here are a couple reviews that came in from Pro Staff media partners regarding our stocks for the Savage Axis and Browning X-Bolt. We all know Savage Arms. They've been around since and have always seemed to have a good standing in our minds. Savage is known for their quality, reliability, and most importantly, their accuracy.

One of the firearms that has proven true to this standard but tends to slip through the cracks is the Savage Axis.

I picked one of these up about two years ago when I was looking for a new hunting rifle at a decent price. I was instantly impressed with the way that it shot and operated. It was extremely accurate and reliable, and I was honestly blown away for the price that I paid for it.

Boyds had really sparked my interest. I ended up getting one of their custom hardwood gunstocks to replace the plastic one on my Savage Axis. What a difference that made! It took all of about 10 minutes to install. All I had to do was remove the two takedown screws on the rifle, swap out the stocks and replace the screws. The feel and look of my gun was instantly changed. Nothing rubbed or needed to be trimmed at all. I could absolutely tell that it was specifically made for that rifle.

Boyds has everything laid out on their website so you can pick and choose each of the individual options for the stock you are ordering. I ended up going with a dark XX walnut with a high gloss finish, and it is gorgeous.

They have the options to customize just about everything you could want on the stock, from the shape, color and finish all the way to the recoil pad and length of pull. There was probably half of the recoil that there used to be, which made shooting it so much easier.

More importantly, it increased its accuracy.

My groups tightened up significantly with the new stock. The creaking and twisting I had experienced with the plastic stock was gone. I highly recommend updating your Savage Axis if you have one. For around a hundred bucks, you can turn a relatively inexpensive rifle into a firearm that you will truly want to hang on to for the rest of your life.

I own several hunting rifles, shotguns and a few pistols. Adding a custom stock however, really lets you customize the look, feel and functionality of your firearm and will likely make you want to shoot more often and as a result, make you a better shooter or hunter.

I began with a factory Browning X Bolt in. This is a great all around gun that allows me to hunt pretty much everything from deer and hogs in the Midwest, to elk, caribou and other big game as well.

I did not realize how much more I was actually going to get out of my rifle with a new stock. After navigating the Boyds website, I had picked out a stock style, color, finish, recoil pad and all the custom options that I desired on the stock. In the meantime, I was preparing for a Caribou hunt in Alaska and was working up custom loads for this rifle.

I was not sure if the Boyds stock would arrive prior to my trip or not, so I sighted the rifle in and chose the loads with the factory stock on the rifle. Much to my surprise, the stock arrived just a few short days prior to my departure for my hunt in Alaska.

I was actually amazed at the short wait time for a custom, made to order stock. I had some time on a calm day though, so I decided to make the switch. This was a quick easy process that did not require any special knowledge or experience. The custom stock was on in less than 5 minutes and I was headed to the range to double check everything. Initially, my sole intent was to change the look of the rifle and it looked great.

As I shouldered the rifle on the bench, everything seemed to line up perfectly! It felt natural, comfortable and I felt like I had been missing something so many times before.

I chambered a round and settled the crosshairs. All the hard work getting everything perfect and it was still driving tacks! I knew then that there was much more to having a custom stock than just the beautiful colors of the hardwood. The rifle felt so much better than it did with the factory stock.
