On 3rd November we submitted our detailed proposals to be relocated to the industrial estate on a 20 year Full Repairing and Insuring FRI lease. We understand that other market operators have expressed an interest in taking the lease of the new market. We have security of tenure in the current site so the proposal is for a new lease to be entered into on a new site on slightly differing terms subject to contract.

ELDC are responsible for repairs, insurance and rates on the current site. We are regularly in touch with ELDC with regard to the roof structure in particular and the urgent repairs required.

The council intend to make a decision on the future of the market in the next few months, but we understand that the deal to redevelop the current site is currently with solicitors and will be subject to a planning application in the months to come. These are exciting proposals and have had design input from us but we are not in control of the design or specification. We the auctioneers remain committed to running the market to the best of our ability in the long term wherever it is located.
